ADC, NDC AND PDP CONDEMN ALLEGED ATTACKS ON OPPOSITION PARTIES IN ENUGU, CALL FOR END TO POLITICAL VIOLENCE
ENUGU STATE — The African Democratic Congress (ADC), the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have jointly condemned reported attacks on opposition parties in Enugu State, calling for an immediate end to political violence, intimidation, and the destruction of property.
The parties expressed concern over the reported incidents, stressing that violence and intimidation have no place in a democratic society. They emphasised the need to protect lives and property, uphold the rule of law, and guarantee a safe political environment where all parties can operate freely without fear of harassment or intimidation.
They further called on the relevant authorities to investigate the allegations, address the concerns raised, and ensure that anyone found culpable is held accountable in accordance with the law. According to the parties, political disagreements should be resolved through dialogue, mutual respect, and lawful democratic processes rather than violence or confrontation.
The joint position underscores the importance of safeguarding democratic institutions and protecting the constitutional rights of political parties and their supporters as Enugu State prepares for the 2027 general elections.
The parties urged political stakeholders and their supporters to embrace peace, tolerance, and responsible political engagement, noting that a peaceful atmosphere is essential for credible elections and the continued development of the state.
