PDP WARD MEETING DISRUPTED BY GUNMEN ALLEGEDLY LINKED TO NKANU WEST COUNCIL CHAIRMAN

Nnaji Calls for Swift Investigation, Urges Supporters to Remain Calm

ENUGU — A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ward meeting in Akpugo Ward 3, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, was reportedly disrupted by gunmen, sparking concerns over the safety of political activities and the need for stronger protection of democratic processes.

Akpugo Ward 3 is the political ward of Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji Nwakaibeya, the PDP governorship candidate.

Speaking to party faithful at the scene, Chief Nnaji condemned the incident and declared that “Enough is Enough,” while calling on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other relevant security authorities to conduct a swift, transparent, and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

He urged the authorities to identify those responsible and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice in accordance with the law.

Chief Nnaji also appealed to his supporters across Enugu State to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding, urging them not to be intimidated or discouraged by what he described as attempts by anti-democratic forces to undermine political participation and peaceful engagement.

He assured party members and supporters that appropriate security measures would be pursued to protect lives and property before, during, and after the 2027 general elections.

The Enugu State Commissioner of Police, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Nkanu West, and other senior security officials were present at the scene and conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the situation.

The Commissioner of Police reportedly assured Chief Nnaji that the incident would be investigated promptly, with a commitment to identifying the perpetrators and bringing anyone found responsible to justice.

Chief Nnaji was accompanied by the PDP State Chairman, Hon. Vitus Okechi, as well as the party's senatorial candidates for Enugu East and Enugu North Senatorial Districts.

While the allegations surrounding the incident remain subject to investigation, the development has renewed calls for all political actors, supporters, and security stakeholders to uphold peace, democratic principles, and the rule of law.

As Enugu State moves toward the 2027 elections, stakeholders have a responsibility to ensure that political activities are conducted in an atmosphere free from intimidation, violence, and fear, allowing citizens to exercise their democratic rights peacefully.

The focus now should be on a credible investigation, accountability, and the protection of every citizen's right to participate freely in the democratic process.
