Allegation Against Assaulted Enugu Man Changes as Rights Activist Demands Justice

Human rights advocate Harrison Gwamnishu has provided an update on the case of Ekene Agala, the young man who allegedly survived a mob assault after being accused of stealing ₦2 million in an estate in Enugu State.

According to Gwamnishu, the woman who initially accused Ekene of the theft had claimed there was CCTV footage confirming the allegation, a claim that reportedly led to estate security personnel and others subjecting him to mob justice.

However, Gwamnishu said the narrative has since changed, alleging that the complainant now says there is no CCTV footage and instead claims that a young child witnessed Ekene taking the money.

The rights activist described the development as significant and announced that legal steps would commence to seek justice for Ekene.

"We thank God he survived the mob attack," Gwamnishu said, adding that efforts would now focus on ensuring accountability for those involved in the alleged assault.

The incident has continued to attract public attention, with renewed calls for due process and an end to mob justice, as investigations into the matter continue.
