BREAKING: ASUU-ESUT COMMENCES TWO-WEEK WARNING STRIKE

Academic and departmental activities at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) have been brought to a total halt as the local chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) officially commenced a two-week warning strike following unresolved labor grievances with the university administration.

​Speaking during a press conference in Enugu, the ASUU-ESUT Chapter Chairman, Comrade Andrew Apeh, stated that the industrial action was necessitated by management's failure to implement the 2025 renegotiated Federal Government–ASUU agreement. The union highlighted that while several other state-owned tertiary institutions across the country have already commenced the implementation of the new salary structure and allowances, ESUT management has failed to act despite previous dialogues and the expiration of a one-month ultimatum.

​As reported by Enugu Mandate news, the union directive mandates a complete shutdown of all academic operations across the university's Agbani and Enugu campuses. Under the strike guidelines, academic staff are strictly barred from conducting lectures, administering examinations, supervising undergraduate or postgraduate projects, participating in project defenses, or attending statutory departmental and faculty meetings.

​Faculty members have been instructed to stay away from university campuses for the entire two-week period. To guarantee strict adherence to the directive, ASUU-ESUT has inaugurated an internal monitoring team tasked with enforcing total compliance across all academic departments. Students have been advised to remain calm and monitor official channels for further updates from the university administration and union leadership.
