Education Minister Orders FUTO Vice-Chancellor to Reverse 24 Aide Appointments

The Federal Government has ordered the immediate reversal of the appointment of 24 aides in the office of the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), citing alleged violations of established university regulations.

In a directive dated June 25, 2026, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, acting through the Ministry's Acting Director of University Education, described the appointments as inconsistent with due process and the governance framework guiding federal universities.

According to the Ministry, the appointments, reportedly approved through an internal memo dated June 22, 2026, did not comply with existing procedures and were therefore deemed irregular.

The directive specifically instructs the FUTO Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ikechukwu Dozie, to reverse the appointments immediately and submit evidence of compliance to the Federal Ministry of Education without delay.

The Federal Government also copied the National Universities Commission (NUC) in the directive, indicating that the matter may be subjected to further regulatory review.

The development has sparked renewed attention on governance, transparency, and adherence to administrative procedures within Nigeria's federal university system.
