Eid-ul-Mawlid 2026: Federal Government Declares Tuesday, August 25 Public Holiday

ABUJA, NIGERIA — The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a statutory public holiday in observance of this year's Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration.  

​The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in an official statement signed by the ministry's Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani. Extending felicitations to Muslim faithful within the country and across the diaspora, the minister urged all Nigerians to emulate the principles of compassion, humility, and selfless service modeled by the Holy Prophet Muhammad.  

​Highlighting the importance of national cohesion, Tunji-Ojo called on citizens to observe the holiday with mutual respect and restraint while offering prayers for regional stability and sustained peace. He reiterated the commitment of the current administration to safeguarding public welfare and security across all geopolitical zones.
