ENUGU GUBER MATTER: Nnaji’s Legal Team Rejects Settlement Bid, Court Fixes October 20 for Substantive Hearing

The legal proceedings surrounding the certificate issue involving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Enugu State, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, have entered a new phase, with the Federal High Court fixing October 20, 2026, for substantive hearing.

According to members of Nnaji's legal team and supporters, the matter has been pending before the court for approximately ten months, during which several scheduled sittings were adjourned following requests by the petitioners. They contend that the repeated adjournments have delayed the commencement of substantive proceedings.

They further stated that, at the previous court sitting, the petitioners sought an out-of-court settlement. However, Nnaji's legal team declined the proposal, maintaining that the issues raised should be resolved through the judicial process and expressing confidence in the court's ability to determine the matter on its merits.

Following the latest proceedings, the court adjourned the case to October 20, 2026, for substantive hearing.

Supporters of Chief Nnaji have also questioned the emergence of renewed public allegations relating to the same certificate issue while the matter remains before the court. They argue that issues already subject to ongoing judicial proceedings should be allowed to run their legal course without undue external influence.

The recent allegations concerning the alleged receipt of two months' salary after resignation have also been dismissed by his supporters as unsubstantiated, who insist that such claims should be backed by verifiable evidence and tested through the appropriate legal channels rather than through public commentary.

Reaffirming their confidence in the rule of law, Nnaji's supporters stated that they remain committed to allowing the court to determine the facts. They maintained that no amount of public criticism or political controversy would diminish their support for the PDP governorship candidate as preparations continue for the 2027 Enugu State governorship election.

They concluded by reiterating their belief that the legal process should be respected and that the electorate will ultimately decide the state's political future.
