Former Allies Turn Against Mbah As Market Aide Threatens To Shut Down Commercial Centers Over Opposition Campaigns

ENUGU, NIGERIA — Tensions have reached a boiling point across commercial hubs in Enugu State following allegations that the state government is deploying threats, market closures, and political thugs to suppress opposition political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to insider reports, Hon. Chinedu Mbah, Special Assistant to the Governor on Market Mobilization, convened an emergency meeting with market leaders across the state under instructions from the administration. During the session, the governor’s aide allegedly issued a stern directive forbidding market union executives from allowing opposition parties to conduct campaign rallies or civic engagements within market premises. Eyewitnesses reported that Chinedu Mbah threatened to forcibly seal and shut down any market hub that permits opposition access. Intelligence reports further reveal that armed political enforcers are being deployed to enforce the directive and physically expel opposition figures attempting to access commercial centers.

The authoritarian directive has triggered a fierce backlash, severing key political alliances for the administration. Good Governance in Enugu, a prominent political pressure group that heavily backed Peter Mbah’s election in 2023, publicly disowned the governor and called on citizens to vote him out in 2027.

Speaking on behalf of the coalition, Coordinator Alfred Mbah—a relative of the governor—characterized the administration as a profound disappointment to Ndi Enugu. Describing the market threat as a disgraceful abuse of power, Alfred Mbah declared that familial ties would no longer blind citizens to bad governance, heavy-handedness, and the systematic destruction of democratic freedoms.

The Lion Building Media Team for Nwakaibie has vowed to expose all operational blueprints, covert enforcement networks, and administrative abuses deployed by the state government. The media group affirmed that no amount of market intimidation, political thuggery, or administrative coercion can stop Ndi Enugu from exercising their constitutional right to choose new leadership in 2027
