HUMAN RIGHTS LAWYER BARR. FRANK AGBOWO DEMANDS IMMEDIATE RELEASE OF DETAINED NSUKKA CONTENT CREATOR KELWIZZY

Enugu-based legal practitioner Barrister Frank Agbowo has called for the immediate release of Nsukka-based digital content creator Kelwizzy, who was reportedly detained and physically assaulted after publishing videos highlighting severe road decay and governance challenges across Nsukka Local Government Area.

​In a video statement released online, Barrister Agbowo disclosed that he responded to an urgent summons from a local police station where Kelwizzy had named him as legal counsel. Upon arrival at the facility, the legal practitioner stated that Kelwizzy informed him that he had been abducted by unidentified operatives and subjected to severe physical brutality prior to his official booking. Barrister Agbowo further revealed that when he questioned the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) regarding the formal charges, the officer explicitly linked the detention to Kelwizzy's recent viral video publications criticizing local road conditions.

​The content creator's last public video, published five days prior to his arrest, featured a direct appeal to the Nsukka Local Government Chairman, urging municipal authorities to intervene and repair deteriorating road networks causing severe hardship for residents and traders in the area.

​"Upon arriving at the station, Kelwizzy told me he was abducted and brutally assaulted. When I asked the IPO about the allegations against him, I was told his detention was connected to videos he made criticizing the poor condition of roads in Nsukka. Freeing citizens who speak truth to power is fundamental to constitutional democracy."

​With Kelwizzy scheduled for court arraignment in Enugu State, Barrister Agbowo and civil liberties advocates have strongly condemned the arrest, warning that deploying police machinery to intimidate online commentators and suppress public advocacy over basic civic infrastructure violates fundamental constitutional guarantees of free speech and personal liberty.
