Intimidation Allegations: Social Media Outrage Mounts Over Alleged Threats Against Critic Of Enugu Governor Peter Mbah
ENUGU, NIGERIA — Widespread public reaction and concern over free speech have erupted on social media following allegations of political intimidation directed at online content creator Oloma Juice (@islemonjuice) after she posted videos criticizing policies of the Enugu State Government.
In a public statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Oloma Juice disclosed receiving calls originating from Abuja instructing her to issue a formal disclaimer stating her commentary was not politically motivated. The disclosure prompted prominent civic commentator Nonconformist (@_nonconformist1) to express grave concern regarding the safety of government critics in the South-East, calling on stakeholders to hold Governor Peter Mbah accountable should any harm befall the creator.
The incident has reignited ongoing debates regarding freedom of expression, state enforcement boundaries, and the treatment of political dissent across Enugu State. Social media users and human rights advocates have urged relevant security agencies to guarantee the protection of citizens expressing constitutional rights to free speech, while demanding transparency regarding the source of the alleged intimidation.
Neither the Enugu State Government nor representatives of the state ministry of information have issued an official response regarding the allegations.
