NIGERIAN CYBERSECURITY STUDENT STABBED TO DEATH IN UK OVER £3,000 DEBT AND FAKE ROLEX DISPUTE

A 20-year-old Nigerian cybersecurity student at De Montfort University, Khaleed Oladipo, was fatally stabbed near his campus in Leicester, United Kingdom, following an escalated feud with a former friend over a perceived £3,000 debt and a counterfeit Rolex watch.

​Details presented before Leicester Crown Court revealed that Oladipo and 18-year-old Harper Dennis, a first-year University of Leicester student, became friends through online gaming before their relationship deteriorated over financial grievances. Prosecutors told the jury that the dispute intensified after Dennis attempted to sell a Rolex watch supplied by Oladipo to a London jeweller, only to be turned away when the timepiece was identified as fake. Following months of tense exchanges, including threatening social media messages, a brief physical confrontation occurred on Oxford Street on February 3, 2026, during which Dennis inflicted multiple knife wounds on Oladipo, including a fatal 13cm-deep blade thrust to the heart.

​Oladipo collapsed on the street shortly after the altercation while speaking to his girlfriend on the phone and was pronounced dead after emergency medical personnel transported him to Leicester Royal Infirmary.

​"It was the 3rd of February this year, shortly after 5pm, on a wet evening in Leicester near the university campus, where Khaleed Oladipo was stabbed. He was killed not by a stranger, but by somebody who knew him from online gaming over a perceived debt. Only one of those stab wounds was fatal, penetrating his heart."

​Police subsequently arrested Dennis, recovering bladed weapons and physical evidence during their search. Dennis has pleaded not guilty to murder, possession of an offensive weapon, and failing to surrender his mobile phone PIN, claiming he acted in self-defense. The murder trial is expected to continue over three weeks before a verdict is delivered.
