NO POLITICAL RALLIES IN THE HOUSE OF GOD: Catholic Diocese of Enugu Shuts Down Proposed Tinubu, Mbah Endorsement Event at Holy Ghost Cathedral

ENUGU, NIGERIA — The hierarchy of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu has drawn an unshakeable, historic line between the sacred sanctuary of the church and secular partisan politics.

​In a swift, institutional response to a viral media program circulating across the state, the Diocese has issued an absolute disclaimer—contained verbatim in the official document—completely canceling a high-profile political gathering scheduled to take place on its consecrated grounds.

Political actors and overzealous mobilizers had recently flooded digital platforms with an announcement heralding a massive "Historic Endorsement Rally and Adoption Ceremony". The partisan event was designed to publicly adopt and endorse the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alongside the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, ahead of future electoral cycles.

​Fr. Aneke further clarified that the proposed use of Jubilee Hall for such an event is a direct violation of church policy and does not reflect the position of the Diocese in any way. Consequently, the church has officially banned the rally from holding at the Cathedral venue, expressing regret for any misunderstanding the organizers' initial unauthorized announcement may have caused the faithful.
