Osun Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Dumps APC, Returns to PDP Ahead of 2027 Elections

Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi, who represents the Osun Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing a breach of trust and the party's failure to honour agreements regarding the 2027 senatorial ticket.

Fadeyi, who was among five National Assembly members that defected from the PDP to the APC in July 2025, announced his return during a telephone interview on Thursday. He confirmed that he had formally notified the Senate of his decision and declared that he would contest the 2027 Senate election under the PDP platform.

"I am back in the PDP led by the FCT Minister, His Excellency Nyesom Wike. I have already written to the Senate. I can also confirm that I am the candidate for Osun Central Senatorial District for the 2027 Senate election," he said.

The senator's decision followed his loss of the APC ticket for the 2027 general election to legal practitioner Mr. Adekunle Adegoke (SAN).

In his resignation letter, Fadeyi explained that he joined the APC in good faith to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his ancestral home of Osun Central, believing assurances that he would emerge as the party's consensus candidate for the senatorial seat.

According to him, the understanding reached within the party was not honoured, as the promised consensus arrangement was abandoned and no transparent primary election was conducted.

He stated that the actions of the Osun APC leadership undermined the principles of fairness, equity, internal democracy, and mutual respect, adding that the process also disregarded the leadership and commitment of President Tinubu to due process and party unity.

Fadeyi further expressed dissatisfaction that while other lawmakers who defected alongside him retained their return tickets, he was denied the opportunity to contest under the APC despite prior assurances.

Emphasising that his resignation was not an act of opposition to President Tinubu, the senator maintained that his decision was guided by his commitment to democratic values, integrity, and respect for political agreements.

His return to the PDP marks another significant political realignment in Osun State as political parties continue to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
