Teachers Trapped In Mud On Eha-Amufu Road Heading For Verification

ENUGU, NIGERIA — The deplorable condition of the road connecting Eha-Amufu to the Isi-Uzo Local Government Headquarters in Ikem has sparked renewed public outcry across Enugu State, following reports of primary school teachers and elderly pensioners getting trapped in deep mud during mandatory verification exercises.

​The agrarian corridor, which serves as a major transit route for local farmers transporting produce to urban markets, becomes nearly impassable throughout the rainy season. Local residents express deep frustration over the economic hardship caused by the impassable terrain, pointing out that both agricultural trade and municipal access have ground to a halt despite repeated state government pledges of infrastructural renewal.

​In a press release issued by the Lion Building Media Team for Nwakaibie, the group questioned the tangible benefits delivered to the people of Isi-Uzo LGA after more than three years of the current administration. While acknowledging that the highway falls under federal jurisdiction, the media team stressed that proactive leadership requires direct state intervention or formal collaborative arrangements with federal authorities to alleviate citizen suffering, rather than deferring responsibility.

​The campaign group called on Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji (Nwakaibie) to place the full rehabilitation of the Eha-Amufu–Ikem road at the center of his economic agenda. Highlighting the route’s strategic role in regional food security and commercial transport, the team reaffirmed that sustainable development in Enugu State must reach rural agrarian communities through durable infrastructure rather than unfulfilled campaign promises.
