The Deafening Silence: Public Outrage Mounts Over Actor William Uchemba and Governor Peter Mbah Amid Fallout from Violent Political Attack in Enugu

The political atmosphere in Enugu State has grown increasingly tense, drawing sharp public criticism not just toward political officeholders, but also toward public figures and celebrities whose voices once echoed loudly against bad governance. A wave of deep disappointment has swept across social media and the Nollywood industry, directed at famous actor and philanthropist William Uchemba, following widespread calls for him to address the alarming security breaches unfolding in the state.

Citizens and concerned voters have expressed profound shock over what they describe as a sudden, deafening change of stance. Many recalled how Uchemba previously marketed and vouched for Governor Peter Mbah during past electoral campaigns, urging Ndi Enugu to trust the administration's vision. However, following the recent, violent clashes and reported casualties surrounding opposition gatherings in the state—specifically the attack linked to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) secretariat—critics note that both the actor and his in-law, Governor Mbah, have faced intense scrutiny over their responses.

For an administration whose leader has demanded police investigations into the disturbances, public trust continues to erode as citizens demand more than official statements. Observers argue that when public figures who once styled themselves as moral compasses choose convenience over conscience, they alienate the very people who looked up to them. As the 2027 general elections draw closer, the message from the streets of Enugu is clear: silence in the face of violence and oppression is a betrayal of the common man, and accountability can no longer be swept under the rug.
