UNFULFILLED 2023 PROMISES: ENUGU GROUP RALLIES BEHIND NWAKAIBIE AHEAD OF 2027

ENUGU, NIGERIA — Ahead of the 2027 Enugu State gubernatorial elections, opposition political groups under the umbrella of the Lion Building Media Team have strongly criticized the state administration over unfulfilled campaign promises made to civil servants, pensioners, former local government councillors, and business owners.

​The group expressed deep concern over the delay in settling long-standing severance benefits and gratuities, noting that despite assurances during the 2023 electioneering campaign, many former public officers and senior citizens are still waiting for their entitlements years into the current administration.

​Speaking through political analyst Chukwudi Louis Ani and public policy analyst Dr. Obinna Eneoli, the group highlighted escalating frustration across key economic sectors in the state. They raised alarm over what they described as an increasingly heavy tax burden on petty traders, small businesses, and property owners, contrasting it with initial commitments to inject economic stimulus into local markets.

​The group also questioned the status of key benchmark promises, including piped water projects, rural road coverage across all 260 political wards, and local health and education infrastructure targets, demanding a detailed accounting of past commitments before fresh political pledges are presented to the electorate.

​Declaring their support for Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji (popularly known as Nwakaibie), the group positioned him as a credible alternative offering practical leadership focused on realistic planning, accountability, and verified delivery rather than unfulfilled assurances.
