UNIZIK Orders Comprehensive Investigation Into Assault On Lecturer Following Sexual Misconduct Allegations

The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State, has launched an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the physical assault of a lecturer in the Department of Chinese Studies, Faculty of Arts, following allegations of attempted sexual misconduct involving a female student.  

​The directive followed the widespread circulation of video footage on social media platforms showing students physically rough-handling and assaulting the academic on the university premises. Reports accompanying the viral clips indicate that the altercation stemmed from an incident where the lecturer allegedly caught the female student with a mobile phone during an examination. After signing an examination malpractice form, the student was directed to his office, where she subsequently accused him of demanding sexual favors in exchange for leniency.  

​In an official statement issued by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Aloysius Attah, the university authorities expressed deep regret over the development and condemned the resort to violence and "jungle justice" on campus.  

​Attah emphasized that while the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Anyaehie, maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding sexual harassment and official misconduct, institutional procedures and due process must be strictly adhered to. Management reiterated that no group or individual is permitted to take the law into their own hands within the university environment.  

​The institution confirmed that full administrative review mechanisms have been activated to uncover the complete facts surrounding both the sexual misconduct claims and the physical attack, assuring that appropriate sanctions and fair administrative steps will follow.
