Vanguard Newspapers: Enugu PDP Raises Alarm Over Attack On Ward Meeting In Akpugo Community

ENUGU, NIGERIA — Vanguard Newspapers reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State has raised alarm over an armed invasion targeting a monthly party ward meeting in Akpugo, Nkanu West Local Government Area, resulting in the destruction of property worth millions of Naira.

According to viral reports and eyewitness accounts published by Vanguard Newspapers, armed men wearing Nkanu West Local Government security vests arrived at the venue in two Sienna vehicles and roughly 10 motorcycles, firing shots into the air and destroying canopies, chairs, tables, and public address equipment.

​Vanguard Newspapers confirmed that the rampage targeted property belonging to Hon. Nnaji Sunday Odogwu (Global), Minority Leader of the Nkanu West Legislative Council, who narrowly escaped injury. The violent disruption triggered widespread panic among residents before security operatives, including the Nigeria Police Force and local Neighborhood Watch units, arrived to secure the premises.

According to Vanguard Newspapers, Chief Uche Nnaji and PDP Enugu East Senatorial Candidate Chief Dr. Nweke Kingsley Chizoba (Odaa Opuo) reacted to the development by expressing direct solidarity with the affected party members, assuring them that those behind the attack will be identified and prosecuted under the law. The campaign leaders emphasized to Vanguard Newspapers that democratic competition must be decided through ideas, service delivery, and public trust—not through armed intimidation or political thuggery.
