Ghanaian Catholic Priest Recounts Miraculous Escape from Burning Car, Credits Virgin Mary’s Intercession

A MIRACULOUS ESCAPE: CATHOLIC PRIEST CREDITS THE VIRGIN MARY’S INTERCESSION AFTER SURVIVING A BLAZING CAR

A Ghanaian Catholic priest, Fr. David Obeng Paintsil, has shared a remarkable testimony of survival after escaping from a burning car, an experience he attributes to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the power of praying the Holy Rosary with faith.

Fr. David, founder of the Global Rosary Network, recounted the incident, which occurred approximately ten years ago, describing it as a life-changing experience that deepened his devotion to Our Lady and strengthened his conviction that God had a purpose for his life.

According to the priest, the incident happened as he was returning to his parish after leading a three-day spiritual retreat at the invitation of a fellow priest in another parish. Before embarking on the journey, he prayed the Holy Rosary and asked the Blessed Virgin Mary to accompany him throughout his trip.

After driving for more than four hours, with only about fifteen minutes remaining before reaching his destination, he heard an unusual noise coming from his vehicle. He immediately pulled over and switched off the engine to investigate. However, what happened next turned an ordinary journey into a terrifying experience.

Recounting the incident, Fr. David said, “As soon as I parked the car and turned off the engine, all I saw was a huge fire. Boom! My car was on fire.”

In the midst of the emergency, the priest attempted to escape, but the car doors would not open and his seat belt remained locked. Faced with what appeared to be a life-threatening situation, he feared that he might not survive.

It was at this critical moment that he called upon the Blessed Virgin Mary, recalling the prayer he had offered before beginning his journey. According to his testimony, immediately after he finished praying, the car door opened and the seat belt came undone, enabling him to get out of the vehicle.

He watched helplessly as the flames engulfed his car, but he was grateful to have escaped with his life. For him, the experience was a powerful reminder of the importance of faith, prayer and trust in God during moments of danger and uncertainty.

Reflecting on his survival, Fr. David said, “Here I am. I have my life. And I thought: well, God still has a mission for me to fulfill.”

His testimony has renewed attention to Catholic devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and the spiritual significance of the Holy Rosary, which Catholics traditionally pray while meditating on the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

For many faithful Catholics, the Rosary is a cherished expression of prayer, reflection and trust in God's providence, with Mary’s intercession occupying a special place in their spiritual lives.
