Gunmen Attack PDP Ward Meeting Venue In Obe As Chief Uche Nnaji Condemns Escalating Political Intimidation Ahead Of 2027

OBE, ENUGU STATE — Reports of political violence have re-emerged in Nkanu West Local Government Area following an alleged attack on the venue of a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ward meeting in Obe community.

​According to reports from local residents and party members, armed men allegedly accompanied by the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of Ozalla invaded the meeting venue, disrupting gathering preparations and creating an atmosphere of fear. The development follows a similar incident recorded recently in Akpugo Ward 3, raising concerns among residents and civil society groups regarding the safety of political gatherings across the state.

​Addressing the incident through a public statement released by the Lion Building Media Team for Nwakaibie, campaign representatives of PDP governorship candidate Chief Geoffrey Uche Nnaji (Nwakaibie) condemned the attack, characterizing it as a desperate attempt to suppress political opposition. The team noted that previous political, legal, and administrative challenges aimed at halting Nnaji’s gubernatorial candidacy—including controversies over certificate verifications, public office petitions, and party nomination disputes—have failed to stop the movement's momentum, leading opponents to resort to physical intimidation.

​Reiterating that political competition must be decided through dialogue, policy presentation, and the ballot box rather than thuggery, the statement called on security agencies to investigate the Obe incident, hold perpetrators accountable, and guarantee the safety of all citizens participating in legitimate political activities across Enugu State.
