Leadership Transition at UBA as Emmanuel Nnorom Takes Over from Tony Elumelu
UBA Appoints Emmanuel Nnorom as Chairman, Succeeds Tony Elumelu
The United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has announced the appointment of Emmanuel Nnorom as the incoming Chairman of its Board of Directors, succeeding Tony Elumelu, who will retire on August 21 after completing the maximum 12-year tenure permitted for non-executive directors under the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Corporate Governance Guidelines.
Nnorom's appointment marks a significant leadership transition for the pan-African financial institution, which has experienced sustained growth and expanded its footprint across Africa under Elumelu's chairmanship. His assumption of office is expected to ensure continuity in the bank's governance, strategic direction, and commitment to delivering value to shareholders and customers.
During his 12-year tenure as Chairman, Elumelu played a pivotal role in strengthening UBA's position as one of Africa's leading financial institutions. Under his leadership, the bank expanded its operations across the continent, deepened its digital transformation, and reinforced its reputation as a key driver of financial inclusion and economic development.
With Emmanuel Nnorom set to take over the chairmanship, stakeholders are optimistic that the bank will build on its achievements while pursuing new opportunities for innovation, sustainable growth, and enhanced corporate governance in Nigeria and across its international markets.
