When Party Loyalty Trumps Public Interest

The bill, which had broad popular support and would have unlocked N12 billion in federal matching funds for road construction and urban renewal, fell victim to inter-party wrangling and intra-party power struggles. Several lawmakers who had publicly endorsed the bill reversed their positions under pressure from party leadership.

This pattern of prioritising party loyalty over public interest is not unique to Enugu, but its consequences are particularly acute in a state with pressing infrastructure needs.
