Opinion: The Mandate for Change — Why Enugu Needs a New Political Culture
For too long, the political discourse in Enugu State has been dominated by personality rather than policy, by patronage rather than performance. The time has come for a fundamental shift in how we think about governance.
Beyond Partisan Politics
The challenges facing our state transcend party lines. Infrastructure deficits, educational gaps, healthcare inadequacies, and security concerns affect every citizen regardless of political affiliation. It is time our leaders recognised this reality and governed accordingly.
What Enugu needs is not merely a change of personnel at the top, but a transformation of the very culture of governance — one that prioritises transparency, accountability, and genuine public service over personal aggrandisement.
A Call to Citizens
But this transformation cannot come from politicians alone. It requires an engaged, informed, and active citizenry willing to hold their representatives accountable. It requires a robust civil society, independent media, and strong institutions. It requires, in short, a new mandate — one that comes from the people themselves.
