Ossai Protests Alleged Exclusion from Enugu North Bye-Election Ballot, Seeks INEC Clarification
The senatorial candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Enugu North bye-election, Okwudili Ossai, has expressed concern over the reported exclusion of his name and party from the ballot ahead of the June 20, 2026 election.
The bye-election was scheduled by Independent National Electoral Commission to fill the vacancy created by the death of former senator Okey Ezea.
Speaking on the development, Ossai maintained that both he and his party complied with all electoral requirements and should be duly recognized as participants in the contest. He urged INEC to review the situation and ensure that all qualified candidates and political parties are fairly represented on the ballot.
According to him, the NDC properly notified INEC of its primary election and submitted all relevant documents supporting his nomination. He stressed that the electoral body is expected to remain neutral and uphold the principles of fairness and transparency in the electoral process.
Ossai further disclosed that the matter has been taken before the court, with proceedings expected to determine the status of his candidacy ahead of the election. He expressed optimism that the issue would be resolved in line with the law before voters head to the polls on June 20.
The development has generated discussions among political stakeholders, with many awaiting the court's decision and any further clarification from INEC regarding the final list of candidates for the Enugu North Senatorial District bye-election.
