PDP CANDIDATE ADEDAMOLA ADEBAYO WITHDRAWS FROM OSUN GOVERNORSHIP RACE, ENDORSES ADELEKE

The governorship campaign ahead of the August 15, 2026, Osun State election experienced a significant realignment as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adedamola Adebayo—popularly known as FRYO—officially withdrew from the contest and endorsed Governor Ademola Adeleke.

​Speaking at a press conference in Osogbo just three days before the gubernatorial poll, Adebayo directed his supporters, party loyalists, and political structures across the state to back Governor Adeleke’s re-election bid. Adebayo stated that his decision followed extensive consultations with key stakeholders and a careful evaluation of the political landscape, emphasizing that his choice prioritized the broader stability and development of Osun State over personal ambition. He assured the public that he took full personal responsibility for the decision and urged all political actors to maintain peace, reject violence, and respect the democratic process.

​Adebayo’s withdrawal marks the second high-profile alignment in the final days of the campaign, following an earlier step-down by All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate Adesina Adeyemi-Doro in favor of All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Oyebamiji.

​"Politics is not only about contesting elections; it is also about understanding the realities of the moment, making difficult decisions, and putting the larger interest of our people above personal ambition. After extensive consultations, I have decided to endorse His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke, in the August 15 gubernatorial election. Osun State is bigger than any individual, political party, or election."
